Continued Professional Development

Fenland and East Cambridgeshire is a fantastic place to develop your teaching career. As a growing area, there are plenty of opportunities for progression and support is available to help you take on the next step.

Fully funded NPQs
As one of 12 Opportunity Areas allocated by the government in 2017, Fenland and East Cambridgeshire schools and teachers have exclusive, fully funded access to the Department for Education’s reformed suite of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs). More than 40 teachers are currently benefiting from this in the area.

The following NPQs are currently available:

  • National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership
  • National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership
  • National Professional Qualification for Headship
  • National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership

Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund (TILF)
Teachers in Fenland and East Cambridgeshire also have free access to the Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund (TILF). The programmes currently available through TILF are:

  • Institute of Physics – providing professional development and support for specialist physics teachers, newly qualified physics teachers and non-specialist physics teachers
  • Ruth Mitskin Training – providing Literacy CPD in the teaching and leadership of phonics and early reading
  • Tom Bennett Training – including two courses: one for teachers (Running a Room) and one for leaders of all levels (Running a School). These courses raise knowledge and skills for all staff, enabling them to design, build and maintain an optimal culture of positive behaviour
  • The Geographical Association in Partnership with the Association for Science Education – providing specialised Geography Science teaching, aiming to develop pedagogy that enables teachers to acquire knowledge in science and geography through critical use of evidence and argument that leads to improved engagement and attainment
  • Education Development Trust in partnership with the Chartered College of Teaching – provides a sustained professional development programme which provides expert support for newly qualified and early career teachers (in the first five years of their career), accelerating their progress to become an excellent classroom teacher
